Just Don't Fall book cover

A social media manager for a thriving hockey team. A hockey player that happens to be her older brother's former best friend. What happens when they collide after years of no contact?

Rating: 4.7/5
Format read: E-book

Just Don't Fall by Emma St. Clair is a contemporary romance and the first book in a series that follows the players in a minor league hockey team. This book is a stand-alone and features characters from the books in the rest of the series. It follows the social media manager for the hockey team and Logan, a new player who's not so new to her. Throughout the story, Logan has to prove that he won't take off like he did when they were younger, and they both have to navigate social and work relationships while protecting their own developing romance.

I truly loved reading this book! It is a sweet, fast-paced romance and was the first hockey romance that I read. The characters were all well written, and I was rooting for the main characters to fall in love. The side characters had enough personality that made me want to read their books, too! Honestly, from the plotting to the pacing, the whole book was written so well that I forgot I was reading. I would definitely reread this book!

The Girl of Fire and Thorns book cover

A princess chosen for greatness at infancy. A land that holds many secrets. Can she overcome her doubt and save her people from those who threaten them?

Rating: 4.9/5
Format read: Physical book

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson is a YA fantasy novel with some romance, published in 2011. It is the first book in a completed trilogy. It follows 16-year-old Princess Eliza through her journey to complete the great task God has ordained for her, as shown by the stone lodged in her navel. She is arranged to marry the King of a nearby kingdom and moves to his palace. During her marriage, she discovers there is more to this world than she has ever known through her experiences in court, her kidnapping across the desert, and her time with the 'rebels'. Her experiences help her grow so she can accomplish her destiny.

I loved this book! From the writing to the plot to the characters to the settings, I loved them all! The characters were written in a way that made them feel real, even the side characters that didn't get that much time on the page. The descriptions of the palace, towns, deserts, and forests made me feel like I was there. The glaring heat of the desert and cool forest shade, I was experiencing it all right along with the characters. I have reread this book and I would read it again!

Here is a little clip I found of the author talking about the book!
